New Offering: Cedar Sheds

This year, we are excited to begin offering a variety of beautifully handcrafted cedar sheds as part of our product line!

In the last couple years, the functionality of backyard sheds have moved past just a place to store the lawn mower. With the tiny house movement, people have been inspired to utilize their backyards as an extension of their homes.

Sure, sheds can store your garden supplies, but they can also be so much more. No room for a dedicated home office? Turn a shed into a productive workspace that allows you to close the door behind you at 5 o’clock and have a commute home that will be the envy of your friends. There are “She Sheds” and “Pub Sheds,” guest houses, play houses and any number of ways in which to utilize a shed in your backyard to suddenly feel like you’ve increased your homes square footage tenfold.

In this post, we want to highlight our Office Shed, which is available in 3 sizes and can be customized with premium options like double French doors and vertical, rather than horizontal siding. The photos below show you the building process. Pre-framing will happen off site. A month or two after your order is placed, your new “shedquarters” will be delivered to your home (for FREE! if you are in Western Washington or Northwest Oregon*), where it will be finished on site within 2-3 days.

From the photos below, you can see that the simple interior allows numerous layout options for you new home office – or she-shed or pub shed or whatever your heart desires!

Featured Product: Large Picnic Table

1960s Family Picnic

1960s Family Picnic

Pretty much wherever you live in the U.S., BBQ season is finally upon us! Getting outside in our backyards, local parks, beaches and campgrounds is truly the American way. I love looking back at photos of my own family celebrating the outdoors with one another in this way. A giant table and some sturdy benches is all you need to create amazing memories with family and friends that will carry you for years to come.

With that in mind, I’d love to take a minute to feature our Large Picnic Table, the largest we carry (with a couple length options; we can also take custom orders):

My husband and I upgraded to this table from a smaller one we’d had for years and this is the first summer we’ve had the chance to use it. Above you can see it sitting on our back deck. With four benches for comfortable seating, we know fitting everyone won’t be a problem and so we’ve hosted a number of impromptu backyard gatherings at our home already.

I made a New Year’s resolution to let go of the idea of the “perfect party” and just say yes to having people over. Even if every bit of food on the table is store bought, every cup is plastic, every drink is in a can, say yes anyway. Looking back at the photo above of my grandparents “saying yes” reminds me that it’s not about the perfect tablescape or the “beautiful mess,” it is all about the people you surround yourself with.

Recently, I was watching a webisode of Jerry Seinfeld’s “Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee” with Chris Rock. Chris himself says, “Everything is about company. . . A hot dog with an interesting person is an amazing meal.” I have to agree, wholeheartedly.

I love our Seattle Cedar products because they are so beautiful and of such high quality, but mostly I love that our products pull you outdoors, making any setting beautiful and ready for making memories with family and friends at a moment’s notice.

xoxo, joy

Featured Product: The Denali Adirondack Chair

Today, we are taking a moment to feature our most affordable Adirondack chair — the Denali. We love our Adirondack chairs and utilize a number of them in our own backyard. I like to mix and match the styles of our chairs, just for fun, and have a circle of them around our fire pit. We also have one sitting by itself in the “upper” yard. It’s my “thinking” chair, but my husband would tell you it’s more like my “wine” chair. Call it what you will.

Being from the South myself, the idea of the front porch and watching passers-by is something I’m very fond of. “Sittin’ on the dock of the bay . . .” That kind of thing. Is sitting and observing on a warm summer evening something you enjoy as well?

Here are some images from around the web to get you dreaming!

Bonfire Blankets

My post from yesterday inspired me to look online at vintage-style camp blankets currently on the market. No bonfire, campfire or fire pit gathering is complete without them once the sun goes down. Here’s the round up of new and vintage blankets you can cozy up under:

Sadly, it’s only mid-morning here and there is still work to be done, so I can’t go grab my book, a warm drink (it’s still a little cool outside, though the sun is shining) and head out to the backyard. I’ll just have to live vicariously through this post for now. But, we are past hump day, so the weekend is just around the corner!

How would you like to relax right now?

Gather ‘Round

“The fire is the main comfort of the camp…” – Henry David Thoreau

It’s that time in the Pacific Northwest when, though it is officially Spring, and the sun is shining, the days can be deceptively chilly. I leave the house in outfits that are not quite warm enough, later having to don a thicker jacket.

Perhaps that’s why I find myself pinning away photos of campfires and backyard fire pits; Dreaming of gathering up friends, lighting up the BBQ and settling into a weekend of relaxing, utilizing the backyard and enjoying good conversation late into the evening, snuggled up, of course, to a fire.

Sound good? Here’s a little visual inspiration from around the web to get you dreaming too!

Featured Product: Child Park Table

Finally, the first day of Spring! Here at last, and with it, a burning desire to get outdoors. Do you feel it too?

In honor of that wonderful feeling, we wanted to take a moment to feature our Child and Youth Park Tables. In the photo above, our 5 year old daughter sits at our smallest park table that is just her size. It is made with the same attention to detail and quality is our adult park tables.

Below, both our girls (8 and 5) enjoy a moment in our front yard at our child park table. They have really enjoyed having their own kids table “just like the grown ups” and we have even given it as a birthday gift, on more than one occasion, to close family friends with kids our children’s age. It has been a big hit and the parents have made a point to tell us how much enjoyment their children have gotten from it.

We love a good outdoor party and our oldest has a May birthday, so we make the most of our backyard each year during this time. So far, she has been more than happy to have friends come over for nature scavenger hunts, tug-of-war, corn hole, cake and presents. It’s like her own private field day that we all get to enjoy.

The quality of our Seattle Cedar products is so nice, it is easy to add a few simple frills in the way of balloons and garlands and call it good in the decoration department. Throw a thrifted vintage quilt over the table to add color. Simple is always best, in my opinion. My girls seem to think so too.

Here is more inspiration from around the web to get you planning your children or grandchildren’s first (or one of many) outdoor party this season:

Too Early For Spring

Camp Blake Island

Without a doubt, this has been the mildest Pacific Northwest Winter I have experienced in my time here over the last 15 years. In truth, the entire West Coast has had it pretty good this winter. March is here already (!) and with it, the first day of Spring near the end of the month. Indeed, the flowers and trees began showing blooms and new growth in mid-February.

Already, I have a serious case of Spring Fever and have taken to cleaning out closets and drawers at home. I find myself often thinking of getting out in the yard to get it tidied up and ready for sunny days and lunch on the back patio. I also find myself thinking ahead to Spring Break and wanting to get out into nature. Maybe a camping trip is in order.

If you are stuck in a colder climate, with (perhaps many) inches of snow on the ground, do you find yourself dreaming of Spring as well? What plans have you made for the days when the sun is out, the temps are up and BBQ season is on the horizon?

Here’s some get-out-into-nature camp inspiration for us while we anxiously await the official end of winter.
