1960s Family Picnic

1960s Family Picnic

Pretty much wherever you live in the U.S., BBQ season is finally upon us! Getting outside in our backyards, local parks, beaches and campgrounds is truly the American way. I love looking back at photos of my own family celebrating the outdoors with one another in this way. A giant table and some sturdy benches is all you need to create amazing memories with family and friends that will carry you for years to come.

With that in mind, I’d love to take a minute to feature our Large Picnic Table, the largest we carry (with a couple length options; we can also take custom orders):

My husband and I upgraded to this table from a smaller one we’d had for years and this is the first summer we’ve had the chance to use it. Above you can see it sitting on our back deck. With four benches for comfortable seating, we know fitting everyone won’t be a problem and so we’ve hosted a number of impromptu backyard gatherings at our home already.

I made a New Year’s resolution to let go of the idea of the “perfect party” and just say yes to having people over. Even if every bit of food on the table is store bought, every cup is plastic, every drink is in a can, say yes anyway. Looking back at the photo above of my grandparents “saying yes” reminds me that it’s not about the perfect tablescape or the “beautiful mess,” it is all about the people you surround yourself with.

Recently, I was watching a webisode of Jerry Seinfeld’s “Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee” with Chris Rock. Chris himself says, “Everything is about company. . . A hot dog with an interesting person is an amazing meal.” I have to agree, wholeheartedly.

I love our Seattle Cedar products because they are so beautiful and of such high quality, but mostly I love that our products pull you outdoors, making any setting beautiful and ready for making memories with family and friends at a moment’s notice.

xoxo, joy
